Is CBTH for me?

CBTH provides the development of computational biology skills for scholars who want to build successful careers in hematology research.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must hold a PhD or MD degree (or equivalent) and have a proven scientific track record that demonstrates ambitions to continue a research career in the field of hematology.
  • Researchers in hematology should have a good working knowledge of computational biology, including proficiency in coding languages, and an interest in the application of cutting-edge computational biology analysis to further elucidate hematology research questions.
  • PhD (or equivalent) applicants must have up to eight years (FTE) of post-doc experience after PhD graduation at the time of the deadline for application.
  • MD (or equivalent)applicants must have up to 12 years (FTE) after graduation at the deadline of the full application. MD-PhD applicants or equivalent must have up to 8 years (FTE) after graduation of whatever came last at the time of the application deadline.
  • Applicants must apply to the program with a putative project, the major aim of which is to use computational approaches in further elucidating hematology-related research questions. This should be the applicant’s own project, and it will form the substrate to be further developed during the program.
  • Applicant projects do not need to be wet lab based (i.e., they do not have to propose to generate a novel dataset, this may already exist) and can be based on either experimental or clinical data, or both.
  • Applicants must have mentor support in their institute, ideally both biological and computational. A supporting letter must be provided by the mentor (Please see section: ‘For mentors of applicants’ for details on mentor support).
  • If you would like to be an EHA member and you are not a member at the time of application, please go to https://ehaweb.org/organization/be-part-of-eha/ to sign up as EHA Guest or Member.
  • Institution is defined as the institution where the applicant will be conducting research during the CBTH Program year, NOT the location of a prior mentor or a department head at an institution the applicant may return to later.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English (oral and written).
  • Please see EHA’s policy regarding multiple career development opportunities.

EHA’s Policy on life Events & Eligibility

For each child/pregnancy, a mother can add 18 months to the time since graduation and a father can add 3 months.

Other life events, e.g., military service, disease or lab closure can also extend the period of eligibility but must be justified. If you have doubts regarding your eligibility, please contact the EHA office at training@ehaweb.org.
