Target audience

You are a hematologist working at an academic center or a large community hospital that is known for running clinical trials. You have an interest in clinical science proven by either having been involved as a co-investigator, in (co-)developing clinical trial protocols and/or or by (co-) authorship of publications about clinical trials. You have a keen interest and experience in designing and executing clinical trials. You are looking for mentorship and want to achieve excellence as a clinical scientist.

Twenty early-career scientists will be selected to participate in the course.

"When I applied to EHA CRTH, I:

  • Had 5 years of working experience as a staff hematologist
  • Was still finishing my PhD
  • Had been involved in clinical trial execution (local PI), co-PI/helped writing a phase 1/2 trial
  • Wanted to learn about clinical trial development and all aspects involved but did not know where to start
  • Did not know anyone that had done CRTH

When I saw the CRTH call for application, I wondered if I made a chance to get in. However, when I checked the requirements, I thought I might be eligible. Also, the description of the course sounded like exactly what I needed to progress into that next stage of being a clinical researcher. I then talked to my mentor (at the academical center) to discuss my application (and she encouraged me to do so), and also to discuss a potential clinical trial proposal.

Looking back, I am so happy I did apply and got selected. CRTH was exactly wat I hoped for and more. The content, the 1-on-1 teaching by world experts, getting to know peers from all over the world, the pressure cooker effect that changed my proposal to a viable trial project in just a couple of days and finally it was so much FUN! A life-changing experience."

"When I applied for EHA CRTH, I had been a Consultant Haematologist for nearly 2 years and had also spent quite a few years in research. I was keen to translate some research ideas into clinical trials.

CRTH is one of the best things I’ve ever done: if you have an idea for a clinical trial, but not sure how to get it off the ground, CRTH is for you!  It’s just the perfect scheme for anyone in a junior faculty position or towards the end of their training, who want the skills to design and deliver academic studies.  I think it has saved me years of going down blind alleys! CRTH uniquely offers you one-on-one time, skills and wisdom of the EHA faculty to sharpen and focus your ideas, and to make your trial idea a reality. It’s also great fun to spend time learning and sharing ideas with other enthusiastic young haematologists from across the world."

"When I applied for EHA CRTH, I was working as an attending hematologist (benign hematology and transfusion medicine) and simultaneously I was a PhD student.

I thought EHA-CRTH might be something interesting for my career as a young researcher in Brazil, both for my national and international projection. But it was much more than that! The program not only offers interesting technical tools for best designing and conducting clinical trials, but there is concern also in developing important interpersonal skills.
A unique experience where outstanding researchers in the field of hematology share their experiences in a very relaxed atmosphere. It's an opportunity not to be missed!"

"When I applied for EHA CRTH, I was a hematology fellow in my final year of training.

The CRTH program is a wonderful and unique experience that I highly recommend to any hematologist aspiring to lead clinical research. Each scholar has the opportunity to work with a prestigious faculty on protocol development and receives guidance on the entire clinical trials process. We had the opportunity to meet individually with all faculty members for career advice, and, via these meetings were able to establish new collaborations with eminent experts worldwide. Forging friendships and networking with peers is effortless in the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere at the workshops. For me, CRTH has come at the ideal time in my career when I am imminently becoming an independent hematologist. CRTH provides the knowledge, skills and research connections necessary to be successful in this transition and is the perfect platform from which to launch a career in clinical research in hematology."
