EHA Innovation Grant eligibility

Type of research

Applicants should be conducting high-quality clinical or translational research.

Basic and/or translational researchers can also be included, but the general focus of the project must remain clinical and translational.

Experience

At least one of the PIs must be within five years of their first senior appointment. More junior independent group leaders are encouraged to participate, and their addition would add value to the evaluation.

Geographical location

The consortium must include researchers operating in at least three different European countries, including at least one from the following countries:

  • Albania
  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Czechia
  • Estonia
  • Georgia
  • Hungary
  • Kosovo
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • North Macedonia
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Serbia
  • Slovak Republic
  • Slovenia
  • Türkiye
  • Ukraine

Outcomes and subsequent funding applications

The outcomes of your consortium's innovative project must serve as the basis for applying to a larger research project, such as Horizon Europe or EIC Accelerator.

For this reason, you must state in your research proposal what funding opportunity you'll target using the data from your EHA Innovation Grant-supported project.

Specialized Working Group connection

You must have a connection to one or more EHA Specialized Working Group (SWG), and state this in your application. This could be by:

  • Indicating that PIs are members of an EHA SWG
  • Including a letter of endorsement from an EHA SWG Chair

Co-financing

Your project can receive separate funding as long as:

  • It's from a public or philanthropic institution
  • You've specified it in the project proposal

You cannot receive separate funding from an industry or for-profit entity.

You cannot apply for an EHA Innovation Grant if you've applied for an EHA Research Grant or EHA Bilateral Collaborative Grant in the current call.
