The European Hematology Association (EHA) has joined the European Cancer Organisation, a not-for-profit federation of organizations working in cancer at the European level. EHA’s membership application was approved by the General Assembly of the European Cancer Organisation on November 18, 2020.

Professor Willem E. Fibbe has been involved in EHA over a period of twenty years, starting as counselor from 2000-2004. From 2007-2009 he served as President of EHA and spent ten years as a member of the EHA Board. He has recently joined several committees including the Nomination Committee, Research Committee and the Governance Committee. EHA has initiated a series of online workshops dedicated to guidelines (produced or endorsed by EHA) for diagnosis and treatment of hematologic diseases.

This second edition of HOPE Asia was presented together with the Sri Lanka College of Haematologists (SLCH) on October 16 and 17, 2020. HOPE Asia 2020 was originally planned in Colombo, but due to governmental restrictions this meeting was made fully virtual.

In the second weekend of October, EHA and the Turkish Society of Hematology (TSH) kicked-off the very first virtual HOPE meeting. The meeting was attended by more than 300 attendees from Turkey, the Middle East, North Africa and the Balkan (EMEA) region, in total 34 countries were represented.

Professor Shai Izraeli been involved in EHA since 2006 and has been a member of several Committees at EHA ever since. He is currently the EHA Treasurer, a member of the Executive Board, and the incoming Chair of the Research Committee. Meet Prof Izraeli and learn about what he does and why he has been volunteering for EHA for all these years.

Medical societies and patient advocates across disciplines have joined forces with EHA to call for urgent action to make clinical trials less bureaucratic and more patient-centered, efficient and cheaper.

I serve the EHA as chairman of the Study working group on “Red cells and iron” since June 2014. It was a very fruitful and exciting period.

Professor Robin Foà has been a member of EHA from its beginning and has participated in all EHA Congresses. He was EHA President in 2009-2011, has participated in many educational activities of the association and is currently a member of the Global Outreach Program Committee of EHA.
