On September 24, Prof Ulrich Jäger, former EHA President and current member of the EHA European Affairs Committee, was elected as co-chair of the Health Care Professionals Working Party (HCPWP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). He will lead the working party during its 2019-2022 mandate alongside Juan Garcia-Burgos, EMA’s head of Public Engagement.
HCPWP provides a platform for exchange of information and discussion of issues of common interest between EMA and healthcare professionals. It also interacts closely with the EMA Patients and Consumers Working Party (PCWP). Prof. Jäger has represented EHA on the HCPWP for several years and has participated in the drafting of the 2019-2022 Work Plan for the PCWP and HCPWP, which was adopted last August. His active role reflects both his and EHA’s commitment to an ongoing dialogue between professionals, patients and regulators.
As co-chair, Prof. Jäger will be a strong promotor of personalized medicine in clinical studies and routine clinical practice. He will also support any initiatives aimed at providing access to new treatments for all European citizens.
For EHA, active participation in the working party is part of a broader, constructive collaboration with EMA that includes the identification and nomination of experts, responding to surveys, dissemination of regulatory news and information to the hematology community and exchanges of views on the challenges facing clinicians, researchers, patients and regulators.
