Call for interest — EHA Exam Question Writers Group

The call for interest is open until October 7, 2024. Apply now on the EHA Portal

EHA would like to appoint four new members of the European Hematology Exam Question Writers Group.

We're looking for hematologists who can write questions that focus mainly on the following sections of the European Hematology Curriculum:

  • 3: Lymphoid malignancies
  • 6: Thrombosis and hemostasis
  • 8: General skills

Candidate selection

During our selection process, we'll consider potential candidates' experience:

  • In the fields listed above
  • Of EHA educational activities (including the EHA Exam)

To promote diversity and encourage representation from as many countries as possible, we'll also consider the candidates' countries of origin.

We expect all candidates to have good levels of:

  • English
  • Computer literacy

Role commitments

  • Reading our question-writing guidelines with care.
  • Attending an online question-writing workshop in Zoom with the authors of these guidelines. This two-hour workshop will take place on either October 30 or October 31, 2024. The exact time will be confirmed soon.
  • Using an online question management tool to write and review the questions. The minimum computer literacy required is comparable with the 'independent user' level of software programs such as MS Word and MS Excel. Before you can begin this activity, you'll need to attend an online training session in Zoom on the tool. This will be held on either October 28 or October 29, 2024. The exact time will be confirmed soon.
  • Developing and submitting questions according to an agreed plan. The timeframes for this are: November 4–30, 2024, for the new questions and January 23–February 6, 2025, for reviewing existing questions.
  • Treating all questions with the utmost confidentiality. If your application is successful, you must sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Working within proposed timelines and staying in close communication with the EHA office and Curriculum-Exam Committee.
  • Contributing from a European perspective.

Benefits of the role

  • Question and answer development is considered a great learning experience, which you can apply to your own (teaching) practice.
  • You’ll receive an EHA acknowledgement in the official exam report.
  • Your participation will be EBAH accredited.
  • You'll expand your network within the hematological community. The group consists of colleagues from various countries, who have a wide spectrum of subspecialties.
  • You'll contribute to the future of hematology in Europe.

About the European Hematology Exam

The aim of the European Hematology Exam is to certify excellent knowledge according to the criteria and topics of the European Hematology Curriculum. It’s an important step in the harmonization of hematology training/education in Europe, and helps to support professional mobility.

You can find more information about it, including information on the type of questions, on the main EHA Exam page.

Our question-planning process

Every year, we go through the same process to ensure that our exam questions and answers:

  • Are of high scientific quality
  • Cover the full spectrum of curriculum sections

The steps we take are as follows.

  1. Each member of the group:
    • Writes 5 new questions
    • Reviews 5–7 questions from the current question bank, adapting these according to the updated question-writing guidelines.
  2. Each question writer works with an assigned partner, and the pairs review each other’s questions.
  3. During the ‘blueprint matching’ stage, a pre-defined number of questions per Curriculum section is selected from the question bank.
  4. The Review group (Curriculum-Exam Committee) checks adherence to guidelines and European level, and makes the final selection for the exam.
