Outreach program
In 2009 EHA launched its Outreach program, to deliver education in hematology to the areas with limited access to up-to-date developments. The Outreach Program is aimed at doctors who wish to upgrade their knowledge in the field of hematology, but who do not have the possibility or opportunity to attend educational events in Europe. To meet their needs, the association is exporting its educational activities and tools to countries outside Europe. The support of the Wallace Coulter Foundation was essential for the setup and maintenance of the program from 2009-2019.
The key to the successful implementation of the Outreach Program is, first of all, the establishment of a long-term relationship between local hematology societies and EHA. For that reason, each educational event is organized in close cooperation with the local hematology society. The scientific program for each event is specifically tailored to meet the needs of the specific region and is based on the input of local specialists. It is essential that the faculty of outreach events is made up of both speakers from Europe and local specialists. An ultimate goal of EHA is continuous collaboration with the outreach countries by returning to repeat educational events. As a part of this program, EHA has successfully organized educational activities in South America, the Middle East and Asia.
The Outreach Program was supported by the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation between 2009-2019.
