Lighting the Flame program
It's an amazing experience to meet other people like you that are at a similar point in their career, but also to work with experts that you wouldn't meet through your regular training.
What the program offers
Lighting the Flame is an engaging program of online lessons and real-life sessions that can help you start your journey into hematology.
By joining our program, you'll get:
- A practical understanding of what being a hematologist involves
- Guidance that will give you a head start in the field
Participants who complete the full program can access:
- Information on clinical training and research in hematology in European countries
- Guidance and support from EHA hematologists and researchers
- An online campus with a variety of workshops on hematology
- A wide range of live online trainings in hematology
- In-person learning retreats with the top authorities in the area

Who can join
You can join our free program if you're a medical student, intern, or resident who is:
- Not yet sure about your field of specialty
- Interested in learning more about working as a clinical hematologist or researcher (basic or translational research)
There's no obligation to complete the program. If you decide that hematology is not for you, you can leave at any point.
Register for Lighting the Flame
Program overview
Lighting the Flame has three phases.
- Phase 1 is a fully online phase, during which you can access EHA learning resources around the clock and take part in live workshops.
- Phase 2 is a retreat for selected participants. If you take part in this phase, you'll get valuable in-person learning and mentoring opportunities.
- Phase 3 is a follow-up retreat for participants who took part in phase 2. At this retreat, you can go deeper into other crucial subjects and examine practical hematological approaches.
