What is the European Hematology Exam?

The European Hematology Exam aims to certify excellent knowledge according to the criteria and topics of the European Hematology Curriculum.

While the right to practice will still be granted by national authorities, the European Hematology Exam is regarded as an extra quality stamp for hematologists. It is an important step in the harmonization of hematology training/education in Europe, and supports professional mobility.

The exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQ) in English, covering all 8 sections of the European Hematology Curriculum, and will take 2.5 hours. Participants who pass the exam will receive a certificate.

Once you finalize your specialty training, you should be ready for the exam. To maximize your chances of success, we recommend that you read our guidance on practicing, below.

Who should take part in the exam?

The exam is mainly aimed at hematologists who just finalized their specialty training. It is also open to mid-career and senior hematologists who would like to examine if their knowledge is still up to date.

How to practice for the exam

European Hematology Curriculum and EHA Progress Test

The European Hematology Curriculum covers everything a European hematologist should know.

The EHA Progress Test, modeled on previous European Hematology Exams, is available on the EHA Campus twice each year in March and November. If you take it, you'll receive instant feedback on each answer.

In 2022, 90% of exam candidates who took the EHA Progress Test passed the exam.

As part of your practice, you could also:

• Visit EHA Campus, our online learning platform, which follows the European Hematology Curriculum and includes interesting courses and clinical cases on many topics
• Take part in the EHA Congress, Hematology Tutorials, or SWG meetings
