TRUCKs
Hinrich Abken (Germany) presented so-called TRUCKs, i.e., the fourth generation of CAR T cells. TRUCK T cells contain a transgene in addition to the CAR. This transgene is activated by transcription factors that the T cell produces when triggered. The transgene may encode a cytokine that activates the innate immune system. This is expected to provide a solution to the problem that solid tumors usually comprise a heterogeneous mixture of cells, decreasing the effectivity of CAR T cell therapy.
